Our studio is still taking a break from all gown viewing and shoe consultations for the time being and will resume with appointments from June 2020 onwards.

Entrepreneur Spotlight #9: Joanne Lew | Armadale Weddings

Hello you, welcome to The White Atelier!

It’s always been in our hearts and minds to do more than what we do on a daily basis. Don’t get us wrong, we LOVE our clients and designing beautifully handcrafted and comfortable shoes for all of them makes us super happy and fulfilled! But more than just business, we desire to also give back and add more value to our community- our beloved customers, social media fans and followers, friends and you, who have stumbled upon our humble little blog space here.

And so we have officially started our initiative by interviewing 10 inspiring female entrepreneurs from the local wedding industry in conjuction with International Women’s Day. These ladies come from different walks of life and all have different stories on how they have started and sustained their wedding businesses. You may even be familiar with most of their names!

We will be featuring all of their interviews here throughout the month of March, and we hope you’ll be blessed and inspired.

Entrepreneur Spotlight 9: Joanne Lew
Owner of Armadale Weddings and Inzpire, Mom of One

Can you share with us a little about yourself and how you started your Armadale journey?
I took over Armadale Weddings and Inzpire some ten years ago. I guess growing up, like most girls I always dreamed and imagined how it would be like on my wedding day. I loved weddings, and I wanted to be the one who help make brides’ dream weddings come true.

Like every beginner, I was fresh and inexperienced, but I was blessed to have met many selfless friends from different industries who have helped, guided and given me lots of valuable advices throughout my entrepreneurship journey. Now I have two business partners, Foong and Jasmine who have been with me on my Armadale journey all these years. We work together in planning for our company’s future, execute our visions, build knowledge on the changing trends of the wedding industry and how we can always improve our line of products and services.

What keeps you going when you encounter tough times in your life and business?
I would be lying if I said I had never thought of giving up. I am really grateful for my team for their passion and energy. My production team could be editing our customers’ photos and videos for eight hours straight and still maintain a positive attitude.

Sometimes our schedule is packed to the brim, but I would still see my bridal consultants serving our clients with a big smile. Little things like these keep me going, really. It reminds me that we are all in this together, and with team work, there is really nothing we cannot achieve.

On top of that, we have some of the most amazing customers. They express their appreciation towards our services by writing us thank you notes and leaving us positive reviews. Some would go the extra mile to visit us, send us food, gifts and flowers, while some have even become some of my closest friends. Their encouragement means a lot to me and keeps me going on this journey.

What is the one value that you hold on to the most in your entrepreneurial journey?
I would say Integrity

And so, first thing first, we make sure there are no hidden costs in the packages that we offer. To me, that is unacceptable. We always provide complete information on our packages- from the charges down to the tedious explanations on terms and conditions to ensure that our customers understand our packages thoroughly before they sign up with us. We take pride in being honest and transparent.

We also prioritise on personalised service. We treat every customer with respect, and not just hear them, but listen closely to their specific preferences and requirements, and then personalise our services and packages to cater to their different needs. Every couple is different- they have different personalities, backgrounds, expectations, and individual styles. So it is only reasonable that we acknowledge these differences and listen to what they really want, and do our best to make it happen for them.

What is your favourite quote/motto in life and business?
“Always try your best.”

I think it applies to every aspect in life. There may be times when the business is pushing me to my limits and I feel like giving up. But the truth is, you would never really hit your limit because quite frankly, I have been in situations where I thought I would not be able to survive, but I managed to overcome it with the help and support from my personal family and my Armadale family. So, try your best. You can overcome.

Why do you think it’s important that women support women?
Women understand women the best, so it is only natural that we help each other because there are problems that only women can resonate with. The more women encourage one another, the more support and encouragement we receive in return. I have seen what happens when women leaders support each other: They become more confident, connected, respected and loved. I think this connection is really important.

Are you proud to be a woman? If yes, why?
Of course! Aside from being an entrepreneur, I am also a daughter, a wife and a mother. It makes me feel empowered that I am not just single and definite– I am a serial achiever. Sometimes people underestimate the role of a mother. If I have to be honest, it is tougher than running my business!

One advice for every aspiring female entrepreneur.
As long as you are being true to yourself, you will always find happiness and respect for yourself.
